Brain Gym: A Natural Alternative to Ritalin

Brain GymOne of my passions is a program called Brain Gym. In fact, when I first experienced Brain Gym over 8 years ago (in a private therapy session), it changed my life so dramatically I decided to become a licensed facilitator. During my training, I learned a lot about the body-brain connexion, brain development, re-patterning neuro-pathways and how good it felt to be ’switched on for success’. I had a private practice for a few years, taught workshops, am still licensed and include Brain Gym activities in my daily routine.

What I appreciate most is how such simple, playful movements can have such profound results. I was often in awe at the transformation in clients and workshop participants after a Brain Gym Balance—the ease with which they immediately stepped into a new way of showing up in their lives. These were just my firsthand experiences; the case histories and testimonials from other facilitators were beyond thrilling.

I am a HUGE proponent of doing all things as naturally as possible. Educators and teachers involved in the Brain Gym program shared how children who had been previously diagnosed with ADD and ADHD had noticeable positive behavior changes after a few Brain Gym sessions. While I would never suggest a parent take a child off their medication, I would urge that parent to always seek healthier alternatives. Did you know:

  • Many inpatient drug treatment centers do not allow Ritalin
  • Only a chemist can tell the difference between Ritalin and cocaine
  • More teens than ever before are experimenting with drugs (I wonder how many were given pharmaceuticals as children?)

I invite you to check out the following links about the dangers of Ritalin. http://www.add-adhd-help-center.com/ritalin_side_effects.htm and

Solution: Educate yourself about the possible side effects of all prescription drugs.

Healthier Choice: Look for natural alternatives to medical problems whenever possible.

Tried & True Tip: Brain Gym is not only highly effective, it is FUN and creative! And, it gets our children moving. I invite you to go to http://www.braingym.org and find a facilitator or class in your area. Just by taking the Basic 3 day Brain Gym course, moms and teachers learn enough to ‘play’ with children with profound results. A terrific book Smart Moves: Why Learning is Not All in Your Head by Dr. Carla Hannaford is a good introduction to the life altering activities.
